Flats Fest was actually sooo much fun đŸ˜đŸŽ¶

Brenda went to Flats Fest for the music, stayed for the dance tent, and sacrificed one pair of vintage platform boots to the mud gods.

Girls, seriously, if you skipped Flats Fest this weekend at The Flats
what were you even doing? I’m still recovering. My feet are completely destroyed because I thought vintage platform boots were somehow a smart choice for an old railway yard (they were not), but honestly? Worth it.

When I first heard the festival was between old train tracks and brick warehouses I wasn’t really convinced. It’s all very industrial and kind of dirty-looking, which normally isn’t my thing at all. But somehow it totally worked. There were little lights everywhere once it got darker, people were just hanging out, and it felt way more cozy than I expected.

Also, whoever organized the food deserves credit because literally everything I tried was amazing. The vegan tacos? Ten out of ten. And thank you for putting enough bathrooms around the site because girls know that’s actually important at festivals.

We started the afternoon at the smaller guitar stage—I think it was called The Cave Yard—and I honestly expected another random student band. Instead, The College Dropouts were actually
really good? They weren’t trying too hard, which somehow made them more fun to watch. The singer had so much energy and everyone around us was singing along by the third song, even people who clearly didn’t know the lyrics.

Okay, yes
the singer was also ridiculously cute. His name popped up in his GRACE frame while he was playing, and for maybe two seconds I totally forgot to pay attention to the music. Don’t judge me. I may or may not have given him a little positive community rating. Purely because he was putting on a great performance, obviously. 😌

After that we walked over to one of the bigger stages and I honestly think that was my favorite part of the day. DJ Lexa and DJ Nova absolutely killed it. The whole place was dancing, strangers were singing together, and it had one of those moments where you suddenly realize everyone around you is having the exact same amount of fun. That’s probably my favorite thing about festivals.

Then
 the rain happened.

Not just a little rain either. It absolutely poured down. Within twenty minutes half the festival turned into one giant mud bath. My boots are officially beyond saving and I’m still finding mud in places that shouldn’t even be possible.

The only thing that really ruined the vibe for me was that some people completely forgot how to behave. A few guys were wandering around acting gross, and later near the bathrooms some even started peeing against the privacy screens instead of just waiting. It smelled awful and honestly that’s the kind of thing that makes everyone else’s day worse. Can GRACE maybe hand out automatic minus points for that next year? Asking for literally every woman there.

Luckily we escaped back to the dance tent pretty quickly with a cold hard seltzer, and after about five minutes I’d completely forgotten about the rain. The music was loud, everyone was soaked anyway, and somehow that made it even more fun.

So yes, I’ll definitely be back next year. Maybe I’ll wear sensible shoes
although knowing myself, I probably won’t. I just hope the weather decides to cooperate next time because Flats Fest deserves at least one sunny weekend.
