It took three months, countless cryptic video teasers, and a total social media blackout, but it’s finally here: Liquid Velvet, the new album from Kyler Cross. And girls… my car speakers definitely got a workout this morning.

You all know I thought Kyler’s last era was just a little too intense. His debut, Broken Frequency, was packed with gritty instrumentation, screaming guitars, and way too much angry-ex energy. It absolutely wrecked my ability to focus—I swear it almost gave me a headache. But on Liquid Velvet, he’s completely reinvented himself. The whole album feels like sinking into a warm bath filled with pink cotton candy. The production is unbelievably smooth.

Whenever I listen to songs like “Soft Horizon” or “Gliss,” I can literally feel the stress melting out of my shoulders. It gives me this dreamy, weightless feeling, like someone’s gently smoothing out every thought in my head with a piece of satin. There’s this effect on his voice that makes it sound like he’s whispering the lyrics directly into your ear while you drift away. It’s perfect for your skincare routine or a drive with the windows down on a warm summer day.

Some reviews on the major music sites (run by those bitter, pretentious guys who feel the need to overanalyze everything) are calling the lyrics “shallow” and “empty.” Oh, please. Who’s in the mood for deep, emotionally exhausting trauma lyrics when it’s 82 degrees outside? Those so-called critics just can’t stand music that’s fun, effortless, and unapologetically enjoyable. I just want to float. This album is a flawless 10/10 for me.
