So last weekend, I was out with a few of the girls at this obscure little place. Yes, we were really only there for those viral matcha croissants in the glass arcade—don’t judge me! We happened to walk past this super-obscure industrial basement club. The Silverdale Caves or something? Absolutely not my usual vibe: very old-school, all concrete and darkness. But we heard a sound check, and we had to go in.

And there she was: Vesper Vega.

At first I thought, okay, who is this ice queen? But girls, she is honestly adorable. Like a retro cyber elf with ash-blonde hair cut to her jaw, those oversized vintage jackets, and a look in her eyes that hypnotizes you on the spot. I swear, the very first note she sang gave me instant goosebumps all over. She has this lo-fi, dreamy indie vibe, but with bass that genuinely massages your nervous system. Think Aora Sky’s melancholy mixed with the lo-fi beats from Nova Wilde’s early underground tracks. She performed a song called Static Hearts, and I truly had to blink away a tear at the bar.

Obviously, I sent this straight to the editors at SND-Wave Magazine—you know, those elitist snobs who only write about dusty vinyl bands from the last century—but they just ignored my DM. Typical. They genuinely refuse to give young, fresh curators a platform. Whatever, their loss!

Vesper is still unbelievably underground, and her entire aesthetic is basically glitch-chic meets space fairy. After the show, I messaged her management to tell them they have to book her for the local vibe sessions this summer. The description gives me a clear sense of the sound, especially the dreamy vocals over heavier bass. I would have liked a link or a set time before being told to stream her, though.

Calling the Caves an obscure basement made me laugh. The enthusiasm for Vesper comes through, but the venue deserves more credit for making room for artists before bigger rooms notice them.
